I Need Your Help. Really.
April 29, 2010
I know this is a longer email then I normally send out. I hope you'll take the time to read it--because I'm in a cave and need your help.
Instead of ruling a nation, David led a ragtag band of refugee warriors. At one point, while hiding in a cave on the face of a cliff, the black snake of fear uncoiled in his gut. No wonder--a Philistine army waited below like a pack of wolves.
Looking across the valley he longed for a cup of water from the well in Bethlehem ... the one he drank from as a boy. As he imagined such a refreshing drink, the voice of despair whispered in his ear, telling him he would never taste that water because the Philistines blocked his way.
David wasn't alone in the cave. Three of his mighty men heard him utter under his breath, "Oh, that someone would get me a drink of water from the well near the gate of Bethlehem" (2 Samuel 23:15). A moment later they departed with the silence of a shadow leaving a room.
What happened next amazes me. These three men broke through Philistine lines like a 250-pound NFL running back romping through a Pop Warner team. They fought their way to the well, filled a leather pouch with water, and returned to the cave. Breathing hard, they handed David the leather pouch.
In that moment they gave David more than water. They gave him hope. They gave him proof he wasn't trapped or alone--not with them at his side. Instead of drinking the water, David poured it onto the floor of the cave as an offering. He said it represented their blood, which they were willing to spill for him (2 Samuel 23:16-17). The future king had elevated their heroic act to a deed so sacrificial, so loving and so brave that he wouldn't defile it by drinking the water.
This story proves that a sacrificial act of friendship honors God like few things a man can do.
We Have A Godly Vision
God has given me a vision to challenge and equip men to be modern day mighty men of God. And you're a part of that vision. He has called us to challenge and equip men to fight and win the battle for their heart, home, and the helpless. And God has done great things since MMM was launched.
· Thousands of men have devoted themselves to daily read their Bible, pray, affirm their family, maintain sexual purity and help the helpless.
· Men around the world have received my weekly email.
· Men in 15 languages have read one of my books.
· On Monday, April 26th, 64 radio stations in 26 states began airing five times a day, five days a week, one minute spots which I've written and recorded. These spots, One Minute for Men, will offer men an encouraging word and direct them to theMMM site (you can listen to the spots here).
· We've raised tens-of-thousands of dollars for orphans in India.
· Thousands of men are now locking arms with a band of brothers and meeting weekly.
· Men have been delivered from a destructive life-style. John in Georgia wrote that he had in place a plan to finally live a life of purity thanks to When Good Men are Tempted. Ron from Arizona wrote me after reading Six Battles Every Man Must Win and he said, "I made a covenant with my Lord and Savior this morning to make the four spiritual commitments a daily routine in my life."
· I've received many emails from men who are now praying with their wives and children and discipling other men--all of this after attending an event or reading a book.
I'm In a Cave
Like David and his mighty men, we have a vision from God but the battle looms. I've told David's story so you'll understand what I mean when I say I'm in a cave and I need help from my friends. As with most ministries, the current economic climate has brought with it a downturn in donations. As a ministry, we have managed our finances with prudence and spent carefully so that we can continue to fight for men's souls.
But it's becoming increasingly difficult. In order to continue carrying out the vision of MMM we need an additional $5,000 PER month in the next 90 days. These funds will enable us to:
· Provide better resources on the Internet.
· Successfully launch MMM chapters in churches.
· Expand the One Minute for Men radio spots in other cities and on the Web.
· Continue to write and speak to the issues of men from a biblical perspective.
· Raise funds for orphans.
In order to continue to challenge and equip men to fight and win the fight for their heart, home and the helpless, would you draw water from your well and offer me your financial help? I know you may be struggling with personal economic challenges and I want to assure you that God finds pleasure and blesses the smallest to the largest gift (2 Corinthians 9:10). In fact, if 200 of you gave $25 per month the shortfall would be covered. But realistically, you may be able to give over $100 while others could give a smaller gift. Please act now to allow this ministry to move forward.
Thank you for your willingness to partner with me by supporting the work of MMM. There are several ways that you can give. Please choose the one that's most suitable for you:

Thanks for hearing me from the cave and standing with me at this time. I realize your gift may require sacrifice, just as David's three mighty men sacrificed. But be assured your cup of water will not only enable us to move forward but it will offer me hope and serve as a fragrant offering to God.
