Pray For Our
President as He Prays For Wisdom
March 24, 2003
While watching Fox News this afternoon I heard a
reporter make a passing comment that probably slipped by most
viewers. A single six letter word caught my attention. The word
jumped out of a brief update on the President's morning at Camp
David. A member of the President's cabinet, according to the
reporter, said he had met with the president and they had
"prayed" and then been briefed on the war.
Make no mistake about it, our President is seeking
God's wisdom. Over the last month I've been reading the
biography of John Adams by David McCullough. I must admit I
never realized the devotion of our founding fathers to God until
I read this biography. John Adams, a devoted follower of Christ,
once wrote:
"It must be felt that there is no national
security but in the nation's humble acknowledged dependence upon
God and His overruling providence."
If history proves one thing it is that God
controls the fate of nations and armies. Hezekiah was an ancient
king of Judah who was attacked by an overwhelmingly powerful
army led by a ruthless king, Sennacherib. The situation appeared
hopeless. Sennacherib had swept aside one city after another
like twigs before a raging river. With his army camped outside
the walls of Jerusalem the evil king mocked Hezekiah's God and
promised to destroy him and his people.
Hezekiah fell on his face and begged God to
destroy this evil man (2 Kings 19:14-19). When the sun rose the
next morning 185,000 of Sennacherib's troops had been killed by
the angel of the Lord. The evil king returned home to Assyria
where he was later murdered while worshipping his so-called god.
We must lock arms and fervently pray for our
President as he prays for wisdom. There is nothing we can do to
help our troops and leaders that's more important than drawing
near to God in prayer. Please join me in praying throughout each
day this week.
Pray: For wisdom for our President and other leaders.
Pray: For safety, strength and courage for our leaders and
troops.
Pray: For strength and comfort for the families of our troops.
Pray: For a sense of God's presence with our troops.
Pray: For confusion and despair for our enemies and their quick
defeat.
Pray: For the Iraqi people and their safety and liberation.
