Take the
Challenge
December 29, 2003
You were designed for commitment just as surely as
a ship is built for the open seas and a plane for the sky.
Without a deep commitment to God and his purpose for your life,
you'll be like a clipper ship tethered to a dock or a jet tied
down in a hanger. All of your potential is at rest, waiting to
be unleashed.
I've learned that following Christ and becoming a
mighty man of God demands commitment. Nobody who tiptoes through
life, as though he were sneaking through a minefield, will grow
into the image of Christ. Becoming like Jesus demands total
commitment. In fact, I'm convinced the depth of your
relationship with Christ is directly proportional to the level
of your commitment. I'm challenged by the words of John Rohn,
who said:
Let others lead small lives, but not you.
Let others argue over small things, but not you.
Let others cry over small hurts, but not you.
Let others leave their future in someone else's hands, but not
you.
The Apostle Paul, driven by God's Spirit, said,
"Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to
offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to
God--this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any
longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the
renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve
what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will."
(Romans 12:1-2).
Every January 1st I renew my commitment to the
Lord. I evaluate the previous year and set goals for the New
Year. I challenge you to do the same! Renew yourself to the
commitments of a Mighty Man.
1) Daily spend time in God's Word.
2) Daily spend time in prayer.
3) Daily affirm my family.
4) Daily maintain sexual purity.
Of course, these disciplines don't make us grow.
God does! But they do create a setting in our hearts where God's
grace can work.
So--take the New Year's Challenge! Commit yourself anew to grow
in Christ this year.
