September 13: What Would Jesus Do? Jesus and
the Terrorist Attack
Over and over again the image leaps out at me from
the television set. When I close my eyes I can see the jet
approach the 110 story skyscraper. I see it tilt with the left
wing down and the right wing up. An instant later the jet turned
weapon slices through the south tower of the World Trade Center
leaving behind a massive fireball. Later, both Trade Towers
implode and fall to the ground crushing everything and everyone
beneath them...
October 8: The Power of Two
I’m still unsettled by the terrible scene
that keeps replaying in my mind. And I still have to choke back
tears when I hear a survivor tell about their escape from the
flames, the falling building, or the expanding plume of
dirt-colored debris...
October 17: Manhood is Okay Again
Have you noticed that it’s okay to be a man,
again? Since the terrorist attack on September 11 men are
applauded for doing what men do. Firefighters are praised for
hauling around heavy equipment and entering smoke filled rooms.
Cops are thanked for putting the clamp on evil doers. I don’t
think anybody would be offended if a man decided he didn’t want
to eat quiche or get in touch with his feminine side. It’s now a
good think to be masculine . . . to be tough
October 22: Fear: The Anthrax Scare
It’s invisible . . . easy to transport . . . and
deadly. Anthrax has only infected a handful of people but it’s
terrorized a nation. Almost half the people responding to a
Time/CNN poll said they feared someone in their family will be
exposed. Over 60% said they didn’t think their local officials
could prevent an attack if their town was targeted....
November 5: We're in it for the Long-Haul
An opinion poll released by USA Today last
week indicated that Americans still overwhelmingly support the
President in his handling of the War on Terrorism. But—and it’s
a big “but,” because that same poll indicated Americans are
becoming impatient with the progress of the war effort. Seems we
Americans are an impatient lot. Even though the President said
this would be a long-term battle—we want results and we want
them yesterday...
November 15: Let's Find Out What God Will Do
When We Lock Arms
“The world has yet to see what God can do with a
man fully surrendered to him.” I don’t know who first uttered
those words, but I do know Dwight L. Moody often repeated the
phrase and then said, “Lord, let me be that man.”
December 15: Lock Arms With a Two Minute
Power Prayer
On a dark rainy day last week my mood matched the
weather. I climbed in my car and listened to the rain patter on
the roof. I felt physically and emotionally drained...
